wfilm_kolyma_stanislaw_mucha_r Born in 1970 in Nowy Targ, Poland, Stanislaw Mucha graduated in 1993 from the State Theatre School "Ludwik Solski" in Cracow with the title "Magister Artium". This was followed by a permanent engagement as actor and assistant director at the State Old Theatre "Helena Modrzejewska" in Cracow. One year later he began his studies of directing at the Film and Television Academy "Konrad Wolf" in Potsdam-Babelsberg, which he completed in 2000 with a diploma with distinction.

Mucha's films have received numerous awards, including the Don Quixote Award, various audience awards (including at the Mannheim Film Festival), and the German Film Critics Award. In 2003 he received the Adolf Grimme Prize for his feature-length documentary debut "Absolut Warhola" and in 2004 the Hessian Film Award for "The Center". 2010 follows a Grimme Award nomination for his first feature film "Hope" and he is nominated for the Peace Photo Award of the Klosterneuburg Monastery in Austria for "Humanitarian Commitment in Art". "The Truth about Dracula" (2010), "Die Pfandleiher" (2012) and "Happy End" (2012) continue his success as a documentary filmmaker.

Stanislaw Mucha is regarded as a highly respected auteur filmmaker. His documentaries are characterised by numerous comic stories, absurd developments and bizarre characters, but Mucha never exposes them to ridicule. Many of his films advanced to absolute festival favourites. For his last documentary "Tristia: A Black Sea Odyssey" (2014), Mucha travelled once around the Black Sea and drew an idiosyncratic moral picture of the neighbouring countries. In the cinema "Tristia" was successful and became an audience success. For "Kolyma" Mucha went again on an extraordinary journey.
