The story takes place in the Autumn of 1961, in the area around a small Thuringian village near the West German border. The wall is omnipresent, even though nobody talks about it. The 16-year-old Jochen lives with his parents in a cramped house. The fulfilment of his life is sports. One day Jochen notices the strange behaviour of the village postman. He discovers Thomaschek going for a run in the forest and watching the railway tracks with his binoculars
