The story takes place in the Autumn of 1961, in the area around a small Thuringian village near the West German border. The wall is omnipresent, even though nobody talks about it. The 16-year-old Jochen lives with his parents in a cramped house. The fulfilment of his life is sports. One day Jochen notices the strange behaviour of the village postman. He discovers Thomaschek going for a run in the forest and watching the railway tracks with his binoculars

An American B-17 crashes behind enemy lines. Gunner David Feingold and navigator Ben Rayment are able to save themselves by parachuting. In order to escape German forces, they seek cover in an abandoned farmhouse. As Ben explores the house, he is surprised by a German deserter, Anton Kreetz. Hate, distrust and the will to survive the last days of the war put the relationship of the three men to the ultimate test.
