Between despair and hope
The multi-award-winning film shows the challenges faced by people who are working for a better future despite a rejecting and hostile world. A group of committed activists are faced with an important decision: should they continue to fight for their convictions, even if they often feel powerless and helpless and jeopardise their future? Or should they give up and resign? The director offers intense and emotional insights into the lives of the protagonists, who repeatedly test the limits of the individual in the fight against climate change and mobilise the power of the community to achieve their goals.
What does it trigger in people when a hunger strike is no longer enough? When the people whose future you are trying to save don't really listen? 19-year-old Lina, co-founder of the Last Generation, wants to use civil disobedience to increase the pressure on the government in times of climate crisis. For her fellow campaigners Taura, Guerrero, Charly and Fuchs, this form of protest does not go far enough: other ways are needed. Director Felix Maria Bühler accompanies his five protagonists for a whole year as they take action. He captures friendly, intimate moments, but also shows the difficulties that the activists face on a daily basis - from feelings of powerlessness to violent insults on the street to criminal prosecution. How far are they prepared to go? What are their limits when it comes to standing up for their ideals?
