Bitten

Orginal title: La Morsure / France 2023 / Love story / Mystery / Drama / 78 minutes / Director: Romain de Saint-Blanquat / Suitable for 16 years and over

France, 1967: Françoise, a young boarding school student, lives in a world of strict rules and religious discipline, but behind the facade of the sacred walls she longs for freedom and adventure. When one night she has a terrible vision of her own death, she is determined to live her last night as if there were no tomorrow. Together with her best friend Delphine, she escapes from boarding school and accepts an invitation to a mysterious costume party in a dilapidated villa deep in the forest.

Between the haze of Gauloises, the shouts of wild youth and the sounds of forbidden radio stations, Françoise meets the enigmatic Christophe. Pale and with a penetrating gaze, he fascinates her - and reminds her of the mystical creatures of her imagination. The night becomes a journey into the unknown, into a shimmering, dark world in which the boundaries between life and death, dream and reality become blurred.

‘Bitten’ is a tender, hypnotic film that captures the intensity of growing up in an era marked by upheaval. In his debut, director Romain de Saint-Blanquat creates an eerie, poetic homage to genre cinema, transporting the audience into a world full of longing, courage and gothic death romances.
