Protagonists

Hans-Josef Fell

Hans-Josef Fell is co-author of the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) and former German member of the Bundestag of the green political party Bündnis 90/Die Grünen. Without the EEG, the first version of which came into force on April 1, 2000, much less electricity would be generated from renewable energy sources in the German grid today. Hans-Josef Fell is concerned about the global context: why renewable energies can be the key to peace and how the energy transition can succeed worldwide. This summer, Fell was awarded the Lui Che Woo Prize in the "Sustainability" category, worth 2.2 million euros, for his commitment to the development of renewable energies.

Ganna Gladkykh

Ganna Gladkykh is a member of a young team of consultants for sustainability, and works among others for the Ukrainian Ministry of Environment. It was only after the Maidan revolution that she came to this position. Like many Ukrainians, she wants to participate in the social awakening, because her home in the east of Ukraine is badly affected by the war.

Frank Günther

Frank Günther heads the Versorgungsbetriebe Bordesholm, a utility company and a local energy supplier in Schleswig-Holstein that offers its customers exclusively green electricity. The main goal: self-sufficiency with renewable energies. The big advantage of this is that the local authority holds the power grid in its own hands, so profits flow into the region. Günther shows that the switch to clean energy generation and intelligent energy control is easy to implement – locally and regionally. Hundreds of energy cooperatives, public utilities, green electricity providers and private households throughout Germany are already doing it.

Claudia Kemfert
Prof.-Claudia-Kemfert.jpg

Prof. Dr. Claudia Kemfert heads the Department of Energy, Transport and Environment at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW). She analyses the false assertions with which we are all familiar: from cost tsunamis caused by PV electricity to threatening blackouts. She contradicts the lobbyists of the mineral oil industry and energy companies with scientific facts.

Edy Kraus
Edy-Kraus.jpg

Edy Kraus burns for his invention: a mobile pelletising plant that can process agricultural residues into pellets that serve as a supplier of green electricity and heat. Although the realisation of that dream almost bankrupts both Edy Kraus and his first customer, the two do not give up and stick to the concept. With success!

Reiner Mangold

Reiner Mangold heads the Sustainable Product Development department at AUDI. He develops fuels in which CO2 is recycled, such as methane from the power-to-gas plant.

Xiuhtezcatl Martínez

Xiuhtezcatl Martínez is a 17-year-old indigenous climate activist, hip-hop artist and a powerful voice at the head of a global youth-led environmental movement, the Earth Guardians. Xiuhtezcatl travels the United States and other parts of the world educating his generation about the critical state of the planet. His message and fighting commitment has made this generation raise its voice and fight the environmental crisis. In 2013, Xiuhtezcatl received the United States Community Service Award from President Obama and was the youngest of 24 national changers elected to the President's Youth Council.

Prof. Dr. Stephan Rammler is co-founder and lecturer at the Institute for Transportation Design in Braunschweig. Anyone who wants to change society must think boldly – as a transformation researcher, Stephan Rammler does just that professionally. Airships that make low-emission long-distance travel possible and consumer goods that come from the region and are distributed by inland waterway vessels and cargo bikes. With visions of a more sustainable future, Rammler encourages people to think differently!

Martin Randelhoff runs the blog "Future Mobility" and advises municipalities and companies on future trends in the transport sector. His vision is that of a networked mobility world in which cars and bicycles are shared and in which, above all, reliable and comfortable public transport is used sustainably.

Amir Roughani
Amir-Roughani.jpg

Amir Roughani is the founder and owner of Vispiron, an engineering service provider for measurement technology and the automotive industry, and is now also involved in the project planning of renewable energy systems. The smart entrepreneur had long doubted the energy transition. He could hardly imagine an affordable supply of renewable energies for our industrial nation. He was convinced of the opposite when he met people who think differently and live the conviction that economy and ecology belong together and that there can only be peace with renewables.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

Hollywood action star and former governor of California Arnold Schwarzengger has become a climate warrior. The fact that air pollution alone causes seven million deaths every year made the successful actor and politician a committed green activist. For him, one thing is clear: the climate catastrophe can only be avoided through ethical action. In the film, the Austrian-American Terminator actor presents political, social and technical innovations at the R20 Regions of Climate Action World Summit 2017 which he initiated. He is a committed advocate of change.
