Director
Born in 1968 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Nanouk Leopold studied at the Willem de Kooning Academie in Rotterdam and at the Dutch Film and Television Academy in Amsterdam. Her feature film debut "Îles flottantes" was screened in 2001 in the Tiger Award competition at the Rotterdam Film Festival. "Guernsey" was selected for the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in Cannes in 2005 and "Wolfsbergen" celebrated its premiere in the Forum of the Berlinale 2007. "Brownian Movement" premiered in Toronto in 2010 and had its European premiere in the Forum at the Berlinale 2011. 2013 "Boven is het stil" ("It's All So Quiet") was the opening film of the Berlinale Panorama Special.
Nanouk became a member of the Society of the Arts of the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences in 2016. In 2017 she staged her first play "From the Life of the Marionettes" for the renowned Toneelgroep Amsterdam. "Cobain" is her sixth feature film.
