LA MORT VIENDRA: PREMIERE IN COLOGNE
Christoph Hochhäusler's thriller “La Mort Viendra” (Death Will Come) celebrated its German premiere on March 5 to great applause at the sold-out Metropolis Kino cinema in Cologne. Distributor Stephan Winkler (W-FILM) and producer Bettina Brokemper (Heimatfilm) welcomed director Christoph Hochhäusler and lead actress Sophie Verbeeck, who were guests at the event and spoke with journalist Andrea Burtz and the audience about the making of the film.
During the discussion, Hochhäusler talked about how much Brussels influenced him as a filming location: He discovered many locations during long walks while staying there, supplemented by the work of location scouts. The language situation on set also influenced his directing work: Hochhäusler shot in French for the first time and explained that the language barrier “forced him to reduce” – trust and a common working basis with the team were crucial in this regard.
Sophie Verbeeck spoke about her intensive preparation for the character of Tez. She approached the role less through classical psychological analysis and more through movement, physicality, and presence. Verbeeck described the process as follows: “As an actress, you are very hungry—you have to feed the character.” Tez appears both strong and vulnerable in the film—an ambivalence that was central to her portrayal.
The atmospheric gangster film, which celebrated its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival in 2024, tells of power games, betrayal, and deadly decisions in the dark streets of Brussels.
