The tender revolution

Germany Documentary / 94 minutes / Director: Annelie Boros

Director's statement

ANNELIE BOROȘ

Since I started researching this topic, I have been looking at my surroundings through “care glasses”: there is a lack of care everywhere in the world. While depression figures are rising worldwide, many people are finding it difficult to care enough for others, in addition to increasing economic worries. At the same time, caring professions and their conditions are becoming increasingly unattractive and once the baby boomers retire, the big question remains as to who will look after them when they need it. My personal biography, as the daughter of a Romanian father, also appears to me in a different light since my research: during my childhood, support from Romanian governesses or geriatric nurses was part of everyday life in my extended family.

Only now did I realize the dependencies between Romania and Germany, which are so clearly evident in the division of labor between the two countries. Through my work on this film, I realized how many people - often outside the public eye - have been working for years to put the well-being of all at the heart of our society. Their perspectives highlight the problems of care and at the same time make it clear: as difficult as it is made for them - they want to care. They show how wonderful caring can be when it is at the center of our economy as the greatest good.
