SHIRIN NESHAT
Shirin Neshat is an internationally renowned and award-winning Iranian artist, filmmaker and photographer, whose artistic work focuses in particular on the situation of women in the Muslim world, including her highly acclaimed photo series "Women of Allah". She was born in Iran in 1957 as the daughter of a doctor and emigrated to the U.S. in 1979, where she studied liberal arts at the University of California at Berkeley. In 2013, she was an official member of the competition jury at the Berlin International Film Festival. She realizes her directorial works together with her life partner, artist and filmmaker Shoja Azari. In 2017 she was awarded the Japanese Praemium Imperiale, which is close to the status of a Nobel Prize in the Arts.

SHOJA AZARI
Shoja Azari was born in Iran in 1957. In the 1970s he decided to become a filmmaker in New York, but returned to his homeland in 1979 during the Iranian Revolution. He then emigrated to the U.S. for good, met artist Shirin Neshat in 1997, and collaborated with her for the first time on a project: a video installation called "Turbulent." His art was presented in museums all over the world. He realizes his directorial works together with Shirin Neshat, who is also his life partner.
