PREMIERE OF BEWARE OF PITY
Sold out Premiere of Beware of Pity at Filmkunst66 in Berlin
Beware of Pity celebrated its German premiere on January 28 at Filmkunst66 in Berlin. Film journalist Rüdiger Suchsland hosted the evening.
Together with screenwriter Florian Plumeyer and producer Lorenzo Gandolfo, director Lauro Cress spoke about the conceptual work on the film. Ungeduld des Herzens is explicitly not intended to be a faithful adaptation of the novel, but rather an independent interpretation. Cress described the film's development over several years as an intensive team process.
The lead actors Giulio Brizzi and Ladina von Frisching also provided insights into their character work. The film deliberately avoids a classic hero figure. Isaac is representative of young men in identity crises, without a conciliatory ending. Edith, on the other hand, is not purely a victim figure, but an ambivalent, emotionally intelligent antagonist who increasingly becomes the second main character. Livia Matthes explained that her role was relatively easy for her to play, precisely because it was so far removed from her own personality: “The character had nothing to do with me or my own personality—that gave me a great deal of freedom.”
The lively audience discussion showed that Ungeduld des Herzens is a film that does not explain, but challenges—and that is precisely what makes it so memorable.
