On the evening of October 27, the premiere of Stanislaw Mucha's humorous documentary film “Some Like It Fake” was celebrated with loud applause at the Odeon Cinema in Cologne – in cooperation with the House of Documentary Film. The film, which will be released nationwide in cinemas on November 6 (distributor: W-FILM), takes viewers to the southern Chinese counterfeit city of Dafen, where millions of copies of works by artists ranging from van Gogh to Monet are produced every day.

W-FILM distribution director Stephan Winkler welcomed director Stanislaw Mucha, presenter Arne Birkenstock (Beltracchi – Die Kunst der Fälschung), and the large audience in the packed theater. In the subsequent film discussion, Stanislaw Mucha reported how impressed he was by the dedication and skill of the painters: “They don't copy to deceive, but to learn – and they bring their own stories with them.” He also recounted how a coincidence led him to this topic: a dispute over the authenticity of an icon raised the question of how fragile the concept of the “original” is today. With subtle humor and a clear perspective, the film invites viewers to take a fresh look at the aura of art – and to reflect on the value of the genuine and the fake.
