Stanislaw Mucha Stanislaw Mucha

Born in 1970 in Nowy Targ, Poland, Stanislaw Mucha graduated from the State Theatre Academy "Ludwik Solski" in Cracow in 1993 with a Master of Arts degree. This was followed by a permanent engagement as an actor and assistant director at the State Old Theatre "Helena Modrzejewska" in Cracow. One year later, he began studying directing at the Konrad Wolf Academy of Film and Television in Potsdam-Babelsberg, graduating with a diploma and distinction in 2000. 

Mucha's films have received numerous awards, including the Don Quijote Award, various audience awards (including at the Mannheim Film Festival), and the German Film Critics' Prize. In 2003 he received the Adolf Grimme Award for his feature-length documentary debut "Absolut Warhola" and in 2004 the Hessian Film Award for "The Center". In 2010, a Grimme Award nomination follows for his first feature film "Hope" and he is nominated for the Peace Photography Award of the Klosterneuburg Abbey in Austria for "Humanitarian Engagement in Art". "The Truth about Dracula" (2010), "Die Pfandleiher" (2012) and "Happy End" (2012) continue his successes as a documentary filmmaker.

Stanislaw Mucha is considered a much respected auteur filmmaker. His documentaries are characterised by numerous comical stories, absurd developments and strange characters, which Mucha never ridicules. Many of his films have become absolute festival favourites. For his latest documentary "Kolyma" (2017), Mucha embarked on an extraordinary journey to the north-east of Siberia. "Weather Makers" is another portrait of unusual existences in Arctic regions, in which he portrays three meteorologists and their everyday life at a weather station.
