Uffie
Anna-Catharine Hartley aka Uffie
Uffie was born in 1987 as Anna-Catherine Hartley in Miami, Florida, grew up in Hong Kong and moved to Paris in 2002 to get an idea of Europe and study fashion. During one of her nightly adventures she meets DJ Feadz who immediately recognises her special voice. Uffie is neither rapper nor singer. But she grew up with music from Missy Elliott to Siouxsie and the Banshees which convinced her to try it herself. The couple quickly creates an audience with their electro/hip-hop productions, which they post on their MySpace page. With her fresh and naive flow and explicit lyrics, Uffie quickly becomes the voice of her generation. An adventurous icon, a life between clubs and discos. Uffie goes against the rules of a politically correct society.
In the middle of the noughties, Uffie is one of the first music acts to become famous not classically through the distribution channels of the record company, but via the Internet. Finally, talent scout Pedro Winter discovers Uffie for his famous and style-defining label Ed Banger, which publishes Justice, Mr. Oizo and SebastiAn, among others. Uffie becomes part of a talented community and starts touring the world. From Japan to South America, from Australia to China. She learns her craft during her performances. Uffie appears on magazine covers all over the world. An incredible recognition for an artist who had never released an album before.
After her marriage to club owner and graffiti artist André, the quickly following divorce and the birth of her daughter Henrietta, the late album "Sex Dreams & Denim Jeans" is finally be completed in 2010. After years of excessive partying, Uffie shows a different, darker side of life. If you take a look at her path, at her problems, Uffie gives us a clear, sometimes disillusioning picture of her generation, which, as she says, has lost all its passion and is content to end up in self-destruction.
From 2011 it becomes quiet around Uffie. She moves to Los Angeles and focuses on her family life. The release of the second album is repeatedly postponed and delayed. In 2013 Anna-Catherine Hartley even announces the official end of her career as Uffie. But in 2018 several new singles are surprisingly released. Uffie is working on her comeback!
