100. Birthday of Marcel Marceau

W-FILM also celebrates the 100th birthday of mime Marcel Marceau: With his facial expressions and only a few gestures, he expressed more hope, joy or pain than many a Greek drama. A grand master of mime, Marcel Marceau portrayed the awkwardness of human beings and conveyed the unspeakable through "cries of silence."

In the documentary "The Art of Silence" director Maurizius Staerkle Drux traces the legacy of this artist of the century, interweaving exclusive archival footage with a personal, contemporary view.

On the occasion of International Women's Day, we present to you 43 films by female directors in our repertoire!

Weather Makers: Now on DVD & as VoD

"Thrilling!"
WDR3

As of now, February 24, the documentary "Wettermacher" is available on DVD and as VoD in the W-FILM online store as well as in regular stores. The award-winning cult director Stanislaw Mucha ("Kolyma") takes us to what is probably the loneliest workplace in the world: three weathermen measure the weather on the polar island of "Chodowaricha" without any electronics and with the simplest of tools. Unimaginable, because their work also influences our weather forecasts. But how can the three bizarre meteorologists live and work in complete isolation?

Autumn 2018: during the evacuation of Hambacher Forst, film student Steffen Meyn suffered a fatal accident. Based on footage he collected over two years, we follow Steffen up close as he makes his way through the forest. With him, we get to know the activists and gain never-before-seen insights into their lives and philosophies. Behind all this are the questions: What drives these people? Why are they willing to endanger their lives for activism?
