Bernd Schaarmann
Born in 1968 in Waltrop, grew up in the Ruhr area in Castrop-Rauxel. Bernd Schaarmann was actually supposed to follow in his parents' footsteps and also become an undertaker. Instead, he made a film about undertakers with "Living and Dying in Castrop-Rauxel" and after studying business administration he moved to the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. Following his film studies he worked as a freelance director and lecturer for camera acting, visual narration, advertising film as well as dramaturgy and montage since 2001. Since 2009 he was responsible for the Masterclass Non-Fiction at the International Film School Cologne as project director.
Bernd Schaarmann died suddenly and unexpectedly on 5 October 2014 at the age of 46. With "Nice Places To Die" he leaves behind one last impressive film, which was premiered posthumously at the Filmfestival Max Ophüls Prize in Saarbrücken in January 2015.
